Bitcoin in plain English.
Learn what a Bitcoin transaction does, how a wallet controls keys, and what to verify before using an exchange or making a payment. Take one step at a time.
The Simple Version
Bitcoin is money you can hold without a bank.
It is digital, limited in supply, sent over the internet, and controlled with private keys. The important beginner question is not price first. It is how it works, how people lose it, and how to use it safely.

Separate the units from the quote
One BTC equals 100,000,000 satoshis. In a practice calculation, 250,000 satoshis equals 0.0025 BTC regardless of the USD price. Check that conversion first, then use a timestamped quote only for the separate currency estimate. Do not mistake a change in displayed dollar value for a change in the number of satoshis.
