The October MPC remit reaffirms the UK inflation target
HM Treasury reaffirmed the MPC’s symmetric 2% CPI inflation target. The remit describes the policy framework; it does not announce a new Bank Rate.

What the letter says
The Treasury remit letter, dated 28 October, reconfirms price stability as 2% annual CPI inflation. It says the target is symmetric and applies at all times. It also confirms the MPC’s operational independence. A target is a goal for policy, not a claim that measured inflation is already 2%.
What is not in this release
A remit letter is not the Monetary Policy Committee’s next vote or minutes. It does not itself change Bank Rate or establish the path of rates. The letter discusses how shocks can temporarily move inflation away from target and why the MPC must explain its trade-offs.
Reader check
Before citing the remit, label it as a Treasury letter, note the 28 October date, and keep it separate from an MPC decision. For an actual rate vote, use the Bank’s published Monetary Policy Summary and minutes.
