Read an AI adoption survey without losing the denominator

Percentages from firms, systems, and selected survey responses answer different questions.

Published . Original source: Bank of England and FCA AI survey report, published . This is a 30 October review of a document published earlier.

Label each number

Create rows for 196 responding firms, the 86% of respondents reporting AI use, the 80% reporting deployed agents, and the 39% share of reported AI systems implemented by third parties in the Bank/FCA survey. Write the denominator beside each percentage.

Compare years cautiously

The report compares 86% of respondents using AI in 2026 with 75% in 2024, but warns that the firms and question scope differ. A careful summary can describe the reported direction without calling the difference a precise sector-wide growth rate.

Ask about control, not just adoption

For any financial AI claim, ask who owns the system, what data it uses, how outputs are reviewed, and how a third-party outage would be handled. Survey adoption alone does not demonstrate safe deployment or a customer benefit.
