Bank and FCA survey maps AI use and dependency in finance
A Bank/FCA survey of 196 responding firms reports widespread AI use, while its methodology cautions against treating respondent shares as a census of the UK financial sector.

The respondent picture
In the 26 October report, 86% of responding firms said they use AI, compared with 75% in the 2024 survey. The report cautions that respondent composition and question scope differ between years. These percentages describe surveyed firms, not all UK financial firms.
Agents and third parties
The report says 80% of respondents had AI agents deployed, most with limited autonomy. It also reports that third-party implementations were 39% of reported AI systems and 53% of high-materiality systems. Those shares have different denominators and should not be added.
Risk and limits
The survey highlights data protection, security, third-party dependency, and operational resilience as concerns reported by firms. It is descriptive survey evidence; it does not certify any AI product, predict a security failure, or establish a trading signal.
