ONS earnings: compare full-time and all-employee medians carefully

What changed

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings bulletin gives £811.20 for median full-time weekly earnings in April 2026, versus £766.60 a year earlier. The 5.8% annual growth refers to full-time employee jobs in that survey.

Why the all-employee figure differs

The ONS reports 4.9% annual growth for all employees and 2.9% for part-time employees. It notes that the changing share of part-time jobs and part-time hours helps explain the difference. A comparison must identify which employee group it covers.

The limits

These are provisional gross earnings estimates for April, not a live pay tracker or a claim about each worker’s take-home income. They do not by themselves establish real wage growth after inflation or a change in any individual budget.
