Test a tokenised collateral claim against the asset and the rails

A digital record of collateral is useful only if the underlying asset and the system around it can meet clearing requirements.

Published . Original source: Bank of England tokenised-collateral consultation, published . The 29 October date is an archive slot; this article was not published that day.

Identify what is tokenised

Start with the Bank consultation: name the underlying asset, the token or record representing it, and the central counterparty that would accept it. Do not use “tokenised collateral” as if all asset types had the same eligibility.

Run a stress-path checklist

Ask who values the asset, who controls transfer, how a CCP would realise it after a default, and what happens if the technical platform is unavailable. The Bank explicitly discusses the ability to value, transfer, and realise eligible collateral in stressed conditions.

Keep policy status visible

The 29 October document is a consultation with a 12 February 2027 response deadline. Record any future policy response before saying the expectations are final or that a particular token has been approved.
