Retrospective exercise for 19 October 2026
Prepare a release note before the data arrive
A scheduled release is a question on the calendar. Its results belong in a later, timestamped note.
Written and published . Archive study date: . This page does not claim it was available on the earlier date.
Set the status
Original source. The ONS release page records the UK Labour Market: October 2026 publication time as 20 October at 07:00 London time. In a pre-release worksheet, write the release title, scheduled time, and variables you intend to inspect. Do not write a result in the worksheet before the source publishes it.
Pre-commit the comparison
List the intended reference periods: survey employment and unemployment estimates, HMRC payroll data, vacancies, and earnings may have different windows and revision rules. Record what would count as a meaningful change in your research question before seeing a headline. This reduces the temptation to select only a surprising number afterwards.
Close the worksheet honestly
This page was published retrospectively on 24 October. It demonstrates a preparation method; it is not a claim that NAKAMOTO posted a live preview on 19 October. The release is now available, so a current reader should open the published bulletin.
