Review a buffer after a withdrawal

Turn an emergency expense into a revised plan.

Source foundation

Emergency savings provide a reserve for unplanned expenses or income disruption. CFPB: building an emergency fund.

A worked example

A hypothetical reserve of 1,200 units pays an unexpected 450-unit repair, leaving 750. Rebuilding the spent amount over five months would require 90 units monthly, assuming the budget can support it. That assumption must be checked rather than turning the worksheet into a promise.

Original hypothetical example. Amounts, people, events, and scenarios above are invented for learning; they are not historical observations or forecasts.

What to take from it

A replenishment plan should reflect available cash and competing obligations.

Try it on paper

Compare three-month and nine-month replenishment examples.

Keep the assumptions beside your answer. Check the result before applying the idea to a different situation.
