Record expected results before testing

Prevent a successful-looking result from rewriting the original question.

Source foundation

Regtest provides an environment for controlled Bitcoin development experiments. Bitcoin developer examples: testing.

A worked example

Before a fictional test, a learner writes that 50,000 minus 20,000 minus 500 should leave 29,500. If the observed worksheet output differs, the discrepancy remains visible. Writing the expectation afterward would remove a useful safeguard against rationalizing an error.

Original hypothetical example. Amounts, people, events, and scenarios above are invented for learning; they are not historical observations or forecasts.

What to take from it

An experiment needs a question and an expected observation before execution.

Try it on paper

Prepare an expected-versus-observed table for a paper calculation.

Keep the assumptions beside your answer. Check the result before applying the idea to a different situation.
